Message from the Mayor Mayor Joey Seeber Welcome to Tyler 21, the official website for the City of Tyler Comprehensive Plan. The Plan will establish an overall vision for our future and a strategy for reaching it. We have all invested in our lives here, and others across the country are beginning to take notice of all that Tyler has to offer. Because of all of the good things that we have going for us, we will continue to grow. The real question is what and who are we going to become?

My biggest fear is not that Tyler is somehow stifled in its growth … but that what we grow into 20 or 30 or 50 years from now will not be what we would want it to be. In looking at recent growth patterns, it doesn’t take much of a stretch to envision Tyler as yet another distant metroplex suburb. The central challenge we face today is whether we will allow that to happen or whether we will be able to maintain the quality of place – this place – that we all take pleasure in and value.

Preparing for our future means planning today. We are at a critical moment that requires us to create a new plan to guide and support future growth. Tyler has many wonderful qualities that we have come to appreciate, which will be reinforced by the comprehensive plan. The plan will help us maintain and enhance our sense of place and provide for the creation of more special places. It will establish a framework of lasting value as the city continues to grow by allowing us to integrate new development into established communities, and to create new communities that share this vision.

This planning effort will require participation of the whole community over the next 12-18 months. As residents of Tyler, you know what is most important for our city, and your views, ideas and opinions are essential to this planning process. We hope that you will find this website informative and fun, and will take the opportunity to share with us your thoughts about the future of Tyler.
